“Freaky Friday” is getting a fresh look for a new generation, and theatergoers can catch a musical adaptation of the mother-daughter body-swapping classic at Chancellor High School, starting (you guessed it) Friday. The high school’s spring musical is a collaboration between the theater and choir departments.
This reboot, based on the Mary Rodgers novel and Disney films, features a book by Bridget Carpenter and music and lyrics by “Next to Normal” songwriting team Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. Fun fact: The show had its world premiere right here in Virginia—at Arlington’s Signature Theatre in 2016.
“Freaky Friday” runs Fridays and Saturdays at Chancellor through March 16 and begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $10, and tickets can be purchased at the door. Reserved tickets are $8 at ticketspicket.com and are on sale until March 7.
